Tax revolt in France

Issue No. 2382

The French government is caught in a battle over who should pay tax.

Around 100,000 people joined a march in Paris on Sunday of last week for a “fiscal revolution” to tax the rich, according to the left wing Front de Gauche coalition.

Thousands of lorry drivers blocked major motorways in up to 26 places on Saturday of last week against an “ecotax” on road haulage, with further blockades planned.

And up to 40,000 people joined a “Red Bonnet” march against the ecotax in Carhaix, Brittany.

The New Anticapitalist Party marched with a banner calling for a ban on sackings.
