Bankers pay on the up, workers pay goes down: There's no recovery for us

Issue No. 2382

Tory chancellor George Osborne says Britain is booming. He wants us to believe that his austerity plans are working and the economy is out of crisis.

But that’s not what it feels like for millions of ordinary people who are struggling to get by. Those in work have seen their wages falling behind rising prices.

Those out of work battle to survive as benefits are cut and the media scapegoats them as scroungers.

The bankers and bosses have never suffered from austerity yet their earnings are now soaring past previous highs.

The number of British bankers “earning” at least £833,200 rose to more than 2,700 last year, in a new pay explosion.

That’s more than 12 times the number of super-rich bankers in any other country in Europe.

The rich and their Tory friends are cheering Osborne’s spending cuts. It’s time to wipe the smiles off their faces.
