Anti-fracking campers defy the cops in Eccles

by Dave Sewell
Issue No. 2384

Protesters blocking the entrance to a fracking test site near Eccles, Greater Manchester, added a giant wind turbine blade to their camp on Monday of this week.

People have been camping out on Barton Moss, where IGas plans to drill in search of shale gas. Hundreds of trade unionists and others have rallied in their support.

Last week saw anger at heavy handed police tactics—including one incident where an elderly protester’s leg was broken.

“People are determined to continue, with the support of local residents,” activist Judy Paskell told Socialist Worker.

“The campaign is just beginning, and still growing in momentum.”
