Socialist Worker

Issue No. 1928

JOHN NEWSINGER, author of Orwell’s Politics and British Counterinsurgency, will be in Bookmarks, the socialist bookshop, to talk about his latest book, Rebel City: Larkin, Connolly and the Dublin Labour Movement (Merlin, £14.95).

John tells of the extraordinary struggle of Irish workers during the Dublin Lockout, when 20,000 workers were locked out by 400 employers, and looks at the roles of Ireland’s famous workers’ leaders James Larkin and James Connolly.

John will be speaking on Tuesday 23 November at 6.30pm. The event is free, and all are welcome.

Look out for Imperial Overstretch by Roger Burbach (who co-authored Globalize This!) and Jim Tarbell (Zed £9.99).

It’s good to see a book that looks beyond the seemingly unbeatable military might of US imperialism and argues, in Walden Bello’s words, that “for all its bluster and armed might, the American Empire has feet of clay”.
