Workers at a homeless people's hostel in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, have walked out for a 12 day strike over Christmas. They are members of the Unite union employed by charity St Mungo's.

The workers walked out yesterday, Sunday. They want the same pay and conditions of other St Mungo's workers.

“We are upset and saddened it has come to this, but we are determined to fight our corner,” one picket told Socialist Worker. The North Herts Sanctuary residents have been very supportive of staff.

Bosses rarely pay sick pay, and are refusing talks at the Acas arbitration service.

Show your support at the picket line next week: Sunday 29 December, 1:30pm-6pm, North Herts Sanctuary, 25 Nightingale Road, Hitchin SG5 1QU
