Traffic wardens say no to ticket targets

Issue No. 2385

Shoppers in Portsmouth enjoyed free parking on Monday 23 December.

Traffic wardens in the Unite union stayed in their office after council bosses refused to pay them during action short of a strike.

Workers are in dispute over the imposition of targets for issuing parking tickets and other issues.

Their action was set to include refusing to use electronic equipment or to raise bollards and barriers.

Workers backed the action by 80 percent in a ballot.
