Manchester protest against bedroom tax evictions

Issue No. 2385

Anti bedroom tax activists in Manchester were set to protest outside the Civil Justice Centre court on Wednesday of this week.

They are protesting against tenants being summonsed for arrears that have built up due to the bedroom tax.

“I’ve lived in my home for 12 years,” said Michael, who lives on the Old Moat Estate in Withington. “But now Southways, my social landlord, is out to evict me for rent arrears built up due to the bedroom tax.

“I don’t see why I should be made to leave my home.”

Jane, an anti-cuts activist in Manchester said, “The South Manchester Against the Cuts group are backing Michael’s fight to keep his home. We will be petitioning and lobbying to build up support for the campaign.”

Join the lobby with banners—Wednesday 8 January, 9.30am, Civil Justice Centre, Bridge St, M60 9DJ
