UCU union members are fighting for their union leaders to escalate action in a dispute over pay. They include members of the UCU Left, which Socialist Workers Party members are part of.

Lecturers in higher education held two one-day strikes last year and further education lecturers joined them for the second strike in December.

Mark Campbell is a lecturer at London Metropolitan University and a member of the UCU NEC.

He told Socialist Worker, “If we are to win we shouldn’t be scaling back our action but escalating it. Our leadership should show the same resolve as all those members on the front line.

UCU Left members are calling on lecturers to hold union branch meetings to pass motions reaffirming support for the pay campaign.
