Refugee crisis in Central African Republic

Issue No. 2385

The French government said its military intervention in the Central African Republic last month would stop the country collapsing into anarchy.

But now nearly a million people have been displaced—500,000 of them from the capital Bangui.

This is in a country with a population of less than 4.5 million.

This is the third time France has intervened militarily in the country since it gained independence in 1960.
