After the jury returned its conclusion of “lawful killing” sections of the media immediately launched a poisonous assault on Mark Duggan and his family.
The Daily Mail newspaper joined the fray with a column by Richard Littlejohn.
It was full of racist and anti-working class smears against Mark’s family and particularly his aunt Carole Duggan.
And the Daily Telegraph ran a piece by Fraser Nelson who said the shooting was down to “gangsterism not racism”.
In the hours after Mark was shot by police, the Daily Mail, the Daily Telegraph and the BBC ran stories that he had shot at police first.
When this was proven to be a lie, none of them came forward to offer an official apology.
