by Ameen Hadi, treasurer Salford City Unison (pc)
Issue No. 2387

Some 200 council workers and anti-fracking protesters gathered outside the Swinton Civic Centre on Wednesday of last week.

Salford City Unison union had called the lobby after mayor Ian Stewart went back on a promise not to replace the council’s chief executive.

The mayor created a new £150,000 a year post while announcing £24.5 million in cuts this year.

Anti-fracking protesters were calling on the council to reject any fracking permits in the city.

The Unison branch is backing the anti-fracking campaign at Barton Moss.

The council’s budget will be set on 26 February. We are building for the biggest possible protest to stop cuts.
