Kabul restaurant attack is fresh blow for Nato

Issue No. 2387

A Taliban attack killed 21 people in the well-protected  district of Afghanistan’s capital Kabul where most foreigners live and work last week.

They included the head of the International Monetary Fund in Afghanistan, three United Nations officials, a police officer and her British bodyguard, and a Labour MEP candidate.

The Taliban say they targeted “high-ranking foreigners” in response to a military operation which killed many civilians.

This came as a fresh blow to the Western occupation less than a year before troops leave.
