Care workers in Glasgow City Council’s residential homes have announced another 48 hour strike. They are set to strike on Monday and Tuesday next week.
At a 100-strong mass strike meeting on Wednesday of last week the Unison union members voted unanimously for more action and immediately began an overtime ban.
One striker at the meeting said, “I’m sick of the council bullying us – I’ve had enough of it.” Another added, “If we don’t strike, then down the line they will take us like ducks lying down.
The workers are resisting the council bosses’ imposition of new job roles, longer shift patterns and pay cuts of up to £1,495 a year.
One senior Unison residential steward told Socialist Worker, “The last strike was solid and management are now trying to undermine the unity among our members.
“We had more people involved in the strike, the rallies and our mass meetings than actually voted to strike. We’re getting stronger. If the council want to dig in, then we’ll dig in too.”
