Some 200 supporters of the Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition (TUSC) met last Saturday to discuss the council elections in England on 22 May.
The SWP is part of TUSC.
There was an enthusiastic mood for an attempt to use the elections to put forward a socialist alternative to austerity and cuts.
TUSC stands for no cuts, and councillors who will offer a fighting alternative to the mainstream parties.
Speakers stressed the necessity of combating the racist scapegoating of immigrants and the attacks on people on benefits.
Socialist Worker supporters will stand in several areas including Barnsley, Manchester, Portsmouth and several London boroughs.
There is still time for other candidates to come forward.
