NUT union members at Henley Sixth Form College in Oxfordshire have won a victory after threatening strikes.
Teachers voted overwhelmingly to take six days of sustained strikes following threats by the principal to deduct pay for taking part in action short of a strike.
The strikes were planned to start on Thursday of this week. But in light of solid support for the action, the principal conceded to the union’s demands.
Threats to deduct pay have been withdrawn and a series of meetings has been called to discuss the underlying issues of cover and workload.
This is a huge victory.
A planned strike at Harris Boys’ Academy in south London was suspended last week due to ongoing talks.
NUT union members were set to strike on Thursday of last week over observations and workloads.
Teachers at four schools run by the National Autistic Society (NAS) were set to strike on Wednesday and Thursday of this week.
Bosses are attacking the NUT and NASUWT union members’ conditions. Talks were ongoing as Socialist Worker went to press.
