Barristers want more strikes over legal aid cuts

by Brian Richardson
Issue No. 2390

Hundreds of barristers from England and Wales met in London last Saturday to discuss opposition to legal aid cuts.

The meeting was organised by the Bar Council.

Sir Ivan Lawrence QC declared, “Politicians have never had a fear of us striking. We have to hand the government a list of dates when we will withdraw our labour.”

Lawrence was a Tory MP during the Thatcher years.

Newly qualified and long established lawyers called on the newly formed Justice Committee to name a day.

An announcement on further action was expected as Socialist Worker went to press.
