Hanson Brick

Issue No. 1853

HUNDREDS OF workers for Hanson Bricks, Britain's biggest brick producer, are set to take strike action in a dispute over pay. The workers, in the TGWU, Amicus and GMB unions, have voted overwhelmingly to strike. The first strike is set for Monday 9 June. The second day of action is set for Monday 16 June.

Bob Blackman, the TGWU national officer, told Socialist Worker, 'The company has offered a 2.7 percent pay increase. That is derisory in the current climate. 'It has also reneged on an additional day's holiday agreed last year. 'This is the lowest offer I've dealt with. We will be planning industrial action strategy over the coming weeks.'
