Assad holds firm in talks on Syria

Issue No. 2390

Talks between representatives of Syria’s president Bashar al-Assad and Western-backed sections of the opposition restarted on Monday of this week.

Assad refuses to discuss standing down.

Talks last month agreed to evacuate civilians besieged by government troops in Homs.

Assad’s forces broke the first ceasefire, shelling escaping women and children.

The talks offer no solution for those fighting for a real alternative.
