Unison sets local government pay ultimatum

Issue No. 2392

Unison has given local government bosses until 1 April to respond to unions’ pay claim or they will begin a national branch consultation.

Unison, Unite and the GMB represent 1.6 million local government workers.

Workers are demanding a pay rise and an end to a pay freeze.

Unison general secretary Dave Prentis has promised coordinated strikes over pay this year.  Thousands of Unison members took part in a national day of action over pay on 5 February.

Now is the time to step up the pressure on the bosses and the government.

If they refuse to budge, everyone who wants to see a fight back against low pay should throw themselves into organising the strongest possible call for action.
