Cleaners on London Underground are to ballot for strikes because their employer, outsourcing giant ISS, is introducing fingerprint technology to book on for work.
The cleaners’ RMT union opposes the “infringement of our members’ civil liberties and the threat to jobs”. The union also said that cleaners should not use the new technology.
They say cleaners are being threatened by ISS to sign documentation saying if they do not use the biometric system they will not be paid.
The RMT said it intends to serve notice of industrial action by Thursday of this week ahead of the company imposing the technology on Sunday.
