Trade unionists and local anti-fascists met for the Wigan launch of the Griffin Must Go campaign last Saturday.
Nick Griffin, leader of the fascist British National Party, is MEP for the North West. Unite Against Fascism (UAF) is campaigning to kick him out of his seat in May’s European elections.
Speakers on the platform included a representative from Wigan Trades Council, the UAF regional organiser and Labour MP Andy Burnham.
It was a very productive meeting with a diary of upcoming rallies, street stalls, leafleting and a student gig planned.
Andy Burnham pledged personal and local Labour support to help ensure that Wigan does its utmost to get Griffin out.
Unite Against Fascism has called a rally in Manchester as part of the Griffin Must Go campaign. It will also promote the Stand Up to Racism & Fascism protest in London on 22 March.
It takes place on 6 March at 7pm in The Unitarian Chapel, Cross St, M2 1NL.
Some 100 mostly local anti-racists outnumbered 90 English Defence League supporters in Grantham, Lincolnshire, last Saturday.
