Health workers and activists held a lively public meeting in Whitechapel on Wednesday of last week to discuss changes to local specialist cancer services.
Under the plans, the most complex surgery for brain, kidney, bladder, prostate, stomach and oesophagus cancers will move away from Barts Health NHS Trust to hospitals in central London.
Retired Newham GP Dr Ron Singer, warned of a “drift towards the centre”, as services move into ever-larger centres and away from local hospitals.
Concerns were also raised about the long journeys cancer sufferers would have to make for treatment.
