Worker dies on Crossrail project

Issue No. 2394

A construction worker on the Crossrail project died after a piece of concrete fell on his head.

The 43 year old was spraying concrete in a tunnel in Holborn, central London, when he was killed.

There have been a number of near misses on Crossrail including a near fatal electrocution at Holborn and an overhead gantry collapse at Westbourne Park near Paddington.

Crossrail was involved in a major 12 month blacklisting dispute after a Unite union rep was dismissed after raising concerns relating to safety in the tunnels.

Islington council in London announced that firms that want council contracts must show they do not practise blacklisting.

Those firms which have done so in the past have to prove they have stopped.
