The Tories’ latest plans for cancer and terminal care in Staffordshire exposes their vision for the future of the NHS.
In the biggest ever outsourcing deal, they are inviting mega-rich firms to bid for contracts worth over £1 billion.
This could see private companies delivering all cancer and terminal care in Staffordshire from next year.
The contracts are set to run for ten years and will see more areas of the health service put out for sale on the market.
This is effectively putting the NHS on the fast track to privatisation.
In 2010 David Cameron ran his election campaign on the slogan, “We’ll cut the deficit, not the NHS”. In reality, the NHS has come under sustained attack under the Tories.
Health cuts have created conditions where staff are overworked and wards are understaffed.
This crisis had led to scandals such as that at Mid Staffs NHS Trust where many patients suffered appalling neglect.
The Tories tried to seize on this to scapegoat workers and pave the way for what is now a very lucrative sale of contracts to their rich mates.
It is now clear what this means. Private firms will be shaping the lives of vulnerable people with life-threatening diseases.
The Tories truly are the nasty party—and we have to get rid of the lot.
