Elections for NUT national executive begin

Issue No. 2395

Elections for the NUT teaching union’s national executive committee open this week.

Socialist Worker is backing Socialist Teachers Alliance (STA) candidates and other candidates backed by the STA.

In particular Socialist Worker supporters are backing Jess Edwards in Inner London, Debs Gwynn in the North West, Stefan Simms in Outer London and Sheena Wheatley in the East Midlands.

Primary school teacher Jess told Socialist Worker, “It’s important that NEC members see our current dispute with Michael Gove as part of a wider fight.

“It isn’t just about our pay, pensions and conditions. It’s about defending education. And industrial action has to be central to how we fight to defend it.”

The ballot ends on 9 April.
