Care UK workers call fresh strike dates in Doncaster

by Raymie Kiernan
Issue No. 2395

Doncaster care workers were set to begin their second seven-day strike on Wednesday of this week over attacks on evening and weekend wages.

The Unison union members are employed by Care UK. The firm took over the previously public care service for more than 130 people with learning disabilities last September.

The new strike announcement follows a unanimous vote for more action at the end of the last strike and after a “pathetic” offer from Care UK bosses.

Andy Squires is a care worker and Unison rep in Doncaster. He told Socialist Worker, “There’s loads of other trade unions getting behind us the longer the dispute goes on.

“Care workers are going to lose 14 days’ pay out of one pay packet. But they’re prepared to do it because that’s how strongly they feel.”

Rush solidarity messages and requests for strikers to speak at meetings to admin@unison-dab.org.uk
