Workers rally against privatisation of probation service

Issue No. 2396

More than 100 probation workers in  the Napo and Unison unions rallied in the centre of Sheffield on Thursday of last week against privatisation.

South Yorkshire Napo convener Sharon Price told Socialist Worker, “The government wants to privatise 70 percent of the probation service. They want to rush it through before the next election.

“It will fragment the service. Workers will lose out because of attacks on our pay and conditions. Our clients will lose out because they’ll get a worse service”

“We’re public servants and this is part of our welfare state and we want to defend our welfare state.”

Napo and the Justice Alliance protest in London to defend probation and legal aid. Assemble Old Palace Yard, Westminster, 2.15pm, Tuesday 1 April
