Up to 75 students from Vardean School in Brighton staged a walkout on Thursday of last week.
They were protesting against Michael Gove’s plans to shorten the summer holiday and lengthen the school day.
The change is in the government’s deregulation bill, which removes the role of local authorities in fixing the dates of the school term.
When asked why they were out one student said, “It’s everything really. We want to spend more time with our families.”
Another said, “They’ve also raised the admission qualifications to sixth form colleges.
“Now I need 8 A*-C grades to get in.
“I’m really worried that I won’t make the cut.”
