The government confirmed last week that Atos Healthcare would no longer be carrying out “fit for work” tests on sick and disabled people.
Atos is pulling out of the contract after enormous anger at the scandal of tests that have wrongly denied benefits to thousands of disabled people and ignored advice from doctors.
Protests from Disabled People Against Cuts (Dpac) and others have made it impossible for Atos to continue. But Atos won’t stop its tests until late this year and the Tories plan to continue them with a different company.
Atos will still assess disabled people for the Personal Independence Payment.
Protests took place at Atos centres around Britain on Tuesday of this week.
