Coal Not Dole: Women Against Pit Closures

Experience Barnsley museum in Barnsley Town Hall. Until 1 June.

This exhibition marks the 30th anniversary of the Great Miners’ Strike.

It includes the short film Women of the Working Class. In it young women from the area have written new lyrics to the Women Against Pit Closures anthem and recorded them with some original activists.

Brick Lane by Phil Maxwell

Photographer, campaigner and former Labour councillor Phil Maxwell has taken more pictures of Brick Lane in east London than anyone else, according to his new book.

It captures 30 years of social change in one of Britain’s most celebrated streets with 300 pages of dramatic photographs.
