Maduro set for talks with right wing leader Capriles in Venezuela

Issue No. 2399

Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro was set to enter a second round of formal talks with right wing opposition leader Henrique Capriles as Socialist Worker went to press.

He aims to end three months of violent protests that have seen more than 40 people killed. Barricades have been set up in middle class areas.

But they are led by a new extreme right wing, influenced by paramilitaries from Colombia, which has emerged since Capriles’ failure to beat Maduro at the ballot box.
