Workers at the Ritzy Picturehouse cinema in south London were set to walk out at 5pm this Wednesday.

The Bectu union members are demanding the £8.80 an hour London Living Wage. Picturehouse is owned by cinema giant Cineworld.

Workers got a fantastic response to a protest outside the cinema on Wednesday of last week.

Bectu branch secretary Nia Hughes told Socialist Worker, “The industry needs to change.

“Cineworld is using its resources to cover Ritzy’s losses during our strikes and avoid having to answer questions from customers.”

Workers at other Picturehouse cinemas are also starting campaigns to unionise their workplaces and fight for better conditions.

Ritzy workers joined protests last Saturday with workers at Lambeth College in London and Care UK strikers in Doncaster.
