Rank and file action is key to push for 10 July strikes

Issue No. 2405

One million workers across different unions could strike together on 10 July. That would be a massive boost to the resistance to the Tories. The PCS, NUT, UCU, Unison, GMB, Unite and other unions could all have members join the action.

But as reports on these pages show, this won’t happen automatically.Workers need to fight for it. There’s a danger that many union members become passive, simply waiting for union leaders to name the date.

Activists must counter this by involving as many workers in activity as possible. That means calling joint union meetings to discuss the possible action.

It means inviting strikers into your workplace to build solidarity and show it is possible to fight. It means deciding on actions to take in the run-up to the strike to keep the momentum up.

The potential is there for a powerful strike. Ordinary workers can help turn it into reality.
