Leadership election begins in NUT teachers' union

by Paul McGarr
Issue No. 2406

Voting begins this week in the NUT union for the general secretary and deputy general secretary.

Christine Blower and Kevin Courtney are standing as a joint ticket in elections for general secretary and deputy general secretary.

A joint ticket of the Socialist Party’s Martin Powell Davies for general secretary and the Alliance for Workers Liberty’s Patrick Murphy for deputy general secretary is challenging them.

Socialist Workers Party members work within the Socialist Teachers Alliance (STA), a left group within the NUT.

The STA backs Christine Blower and Kevin Courtney on the basis they are leading a fight, including strikes, against Michael Gove.
