Egypt: Hunger striker is released

Hunger striking detainee Abdallah El Shamy has been released from prison after protests within Egypt and world wide. 

Fellow hunger striker Mohamed Sultan is still in custody. 

Abdallah’s case and that of other journalists arrested for covering Muslim Brotherhood protests is set for 23 June.

The jailing of political activists continues. A court sentenced political blogger Alaa Abdel-Fattah and 24 other activists to 15 years in jail for organising protests against military trials of civilians.

 A second court case against Revolutionary Socialist Mahienour El-Massry, who is serving a two-year sentence is on 21 July.
