Glass workers two-week strike to smash bosses' pay insult

by Dave Sewell
Issue No. 2410

Workers at Tyneside Safety Glass in Gateshead began a two-week strike on Monday of this week.

The 112 workers, who are in the Unite union, have already struck over a miserly pay offer. Bosses offered a three-year deal—but only if hours were increased. A later offer was made which would have been a pay cut.

Pickets will be out for 24 hours during the strike period and workers are encouraging visits.

The sites being picketed are at Tyneside Safety Glass, Kingsway, Team Valley, Gateshead, and also at 7th Avenue, Team Valley, Gateshead.

Make cheques payable to Unite NE/202/68 Tyneside Social Fund and send to Shirley Foster, Unite the Union, Fry Street, Middlesbrough
