Care UK workers plot new struggle

Issue No. 2412

Care UK workers in Doncaster were set to meet this week to discuss the results of a strike ballot over a new pay claim of £7.65 an hour.

A Yes vote could see a strike as early as 25 July.

The Unison union members care for people with learning disabilities and have been at the frontline of fighting Tory NHS privatisation.

They inspired other care workers to fight with 34 days of strikes against new contracts that slashed wages. But after a lack of meaningful support from their national union they were forced to sign them or lose their jobs.

Workers’ solidarity was crucial and can be again when they restart their fight.
