Reinstate Sodexho rep Petrit Mihaj

London Underground staff working for caterers Sodexho struck on Monday of this week to demand the reinstatement of their RMT union rep Petrit Mihaj.

Petrit was sacked for his trade union activities, an employment tribunal has ruled.

But under Tory anti-union laws Sodexho is not obliged to reinstate him.

Petrit told Socialist Worker, “We are going to continue to campaign for workplace justice and not allow Sodexho’s attack go unchallenged.”

Cleaners strikes at London St Pancras and East Coast rail

Cleaners working on contracts at St Pancras station and Eurostar struck for 24 hours on Friday of last week in a fight over jobs and conditions. 

The RMT union members work for facilities company Interserve who have cut jobs by 30 percent.

Outsourcing giant ISS faces a 24-hour strike by cleaners at East Coast rail. The RMT members are in dispute over pay and terms.

RMT votes on new general secretary

Voting has begun in the RMT union election for general secretary. Socialist Worker supports a vote for current assistant general secretary Steve Hedley. The ballot closes on 22 September.
