‘We will resist until we free Gaza’ - Palestinians defiant after Israel's attacks

Teacher Mohammed Soliman says Gaza’s spirit of resistance is unbroken

Issue No. 2416

Israel’s rulers thought their devastating bombardment and invasion would break the people of Gaza. But it has only strengthened the Palestinians’ resolve.

Mohammed Soliman, a teacher in Gaza, told Socialist Worker, “We have nothing to lose. We have lost 2,000 people already.”

Israel hoped to isolate Islamist resistance organisation Hamas. But Mohammed said, “You can’t keep people in a prison and expect them not to fight.

“I support a secular party, but now we are all with the resistance because they are fighting for our rights.”

People around the world have protested against Israel’s attacks. More than 150,000 marched in London last Saturday.

Mohammed said, “I saw the pictures of the demonstration and it made me so happy. It makes such a difference to us.”

A ceasefire was holding as Socialist Worker went to press. But the people of Gaza still live under Israel’s brutal siege.

The struggle isn’t over until the Palestinians are free.

“We are so tired of the bombing, but we will die slowly under the blockade,” said Mohammed.

“We will never go back to living like animals. We will not give up, and we will not stop until the siege is lifted.”
