A gritty futuristic thriller

Fans of post-apocalyptic Australian road movies won’t have to wait for the Mad Max sequel next summer.

The Rover is a bleak and gritty film by David Michod, director of Animal Kingdom.

A pair of mismatched travellers played by Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson embark on a desperate and very personal quest across a parched landscape of loss and cruelty.

But The Rover has a twist ending. Much like Cormac McCarthy’s novel The Road and its 2009 film adaptation it uses extremes of despair as a way to examine the human condition.
