Two protests called against EDL racists

Unite Against Fascism has announced two counter-demonstrations against the English Defence League. 

The first will take place on Saturday 20 September at Downing Street in central London. The second will take place on Saturday 11 October in Birmingham.

Meat inspectors back strikes for pay

Over 500 Unison union members at the Food Standards Agency (FSA) have backed strikes over pay.

They backed strikes by 63 percent on a 47 percent turnout and are fighting an imposed 0.75 percent pay offer.

Meat hygiene inspectors, vets and support staff in England, Wales and Scotland could strike.

Unions say save Scottish shipyard

The GMB union has demanded the Scottish government intervene to save Port Glasgow Shipyard. 

The shipyard is facing closure and bosses have called in receivers, putting 80 jobs at risk.

GMB Scotland senior organiser Jim Moohan said it would be an “utter betrayal” if the government refuses to intervene.

National meeting of People’s Assembly

The People’s Assembly Against Austerity has called a meeting for Saturday 13 September from 12 noon.

A representative from each local group and each national organisation that backs the People’s Assembly can attend.

Join the fight for climate jobs

The Campaign Against Climate Change Trade Union Group has called a conference to discuss the international fight for climate jobs.

It will take place on Saturday 20 September, from 12 noon until 5.30pm at London Metropolitan University.
