Shambles for racists in Bournemouth as their rally ends with infighting

Issue No. 2418

Over 500 people demonstrated against a English Defence League (EDL) march and rally last Saturday in Bournemouth.

It’s the hometown of new EDL fuhrer Tim Ablitt.

A wide range of people backed the “We Are Bournemouth” march and counter-rally.

They included Unite and Unison union members, Unite Against Fascism (UAF) and Green and Labour Party members.

Members of the Dorset Socialists also backed the march and some young Muslims joined it.

The march was confident and got a positive reaction.

This was in marked contrast to the EDL shambles. The racists mustered only between 100 and 150, partly made up of Nazis from Yorkshire.

They ended up fighting among themselves when the Yorkshire Nazis attacked the local EDL.

Over 100 anti-fascists joined a UAF march in Edinburgh last Saturday to oppose the Scottish Defence League (SDL).

The SDL turned out around 40 supporters, bulked up by racists from England and the rest of Scotland.

The UAF protest won support from leading figures in all the major trade unions.
