What's behind the child abuse horror in Rotherham?

Issue No. 2418

A new report has further revealed the horrific extent of child sex abuse in Rotherham, South Yorkshire—and how the authorities turned a blind eye for years.

Outrageously much of the media has tried to turn this tragedy into an attack on anti-racism, blaming “political correctness” for stopping social workers and police pursuing Asian men.

But the real causes are very different, from cuts to children’s services to the appalling attitudes of those in power towards women and girls from poor backgrounds.

Socialist Worker has covered the Rotherham scandal in depth, including the following articles after documents were leaked in 2012.
