Vote Christina Paine and Darren Tolliday to UCU national executive

Issue No. 2421

Elections have begun in the UCU union for two casual vacancies on the national executive committee.

UCU Left, which Socialist Worker supporters are part of, is standing two candidates, Christina Paine and Darren Tolliday.

Christina is on a zero hours contract at London Metropolitan University and is a high profile campaigner against casualised contracts. Darren, a lecturer at Mid Cheshire College, is standing for re-election to the NEC.

Both want an end to colleges being run as businesses and support joint strikes with other unions to defend workers’ pay and conditions.

The ballot ends on 2 October.

UCU Left’s annual conference, Education, the Market and Resistance takes place on Saturday 25 October, Birkbeck, Malet Street, London WC1E 7HX.

Speakers include author Andrew McGettigan and John McDonnell MP.
