Michael Hilton, a East Lancashire housing association tenant jailed on remand because of the bedroom tax, is set to appear in court on Monday of next week.
Campaigners from Bolton Against the Bedroom Tax plan to protest outside.
Michael could face years in prison for threatening to blow up his home of 30 years when bailiffs came to evict him over his arrears.
Like many people, the tax had made his mental health problems worse.
But Michael’s sister Lynne told Socialist Worker, “He got no help”.
“It’s completely ridiculous, I don’t know how they can do it—for a few hundred quid he’s lost his whole life. He’s not coping well in prison.
“And this is all for a tax that should never have happened, a tax on the poor people.”
Protest: Monday 22 September, 9:30am, Burnley Crown Court, Hammerton Street, Burnley, Lancashire, BB11 1XD
