Events are planned around Britain in October for Black History Month. Here are some highlights.

Islington black history month festival

The borough of Islington in London is putting on an impressive range of events for Black History Month.

It includes film screenings of the 1991 classic Young Soul Rebels, the Stuart Hall Project and the Black Power Mixtape. There will also be a series of talks.

Maya Angelou poetry workshops and open mic

This event will celebrate the life of Maya Angelou, who died earlier this year.Workshops will use her work as inspiration for participants to write their own poetry.

The Scottsboro Boys

Following a sold out run at the Young Vic, the critically acclaimed The Scottsboro Boys is transferring to the West End.

The musical tells the story of the campaign to release nine black men falsely accused of rape in Alabama in 1931.
