Palestinian groups Hamas and Fatah last week came to an agreement that will place border crossings from Gaza to Israel under the Palestinian Authority’s control.
The deal was brokered by the Egyptian regime, which is no friend of the Palestinians.
Negotiations as to how far this will affect Hamas’s wider role in Gaza continue.
The threat of a unity government was one of the main triggers for Israel’s attack.
Hamas said the PA has agreed to pay “some” of the salaries of tens of thousands of government employees in Gaza. It had refused before as Hamas appointed them.
