Resist cuts to mental health services in Glasgow

Issue No. 2429

Labour-run Glasgow City Council is poised to make potentially fatal cuts to Glasgow Association of Mental Health (GAMH).

The charity is expected to lose 40 percent of its funding from the council’s Social Work Department budget cuts.

Unison union regional organiser Deborah Dyer told Socialist Worker, “Staff are facing voluntary and possibly some compulsory redundancies.

“Over 1,000 people from all walks of life currently use this service.

“Many of them will end up in the police cells without the work of the 120 staff.”

Eight percent cuts several years ago resulted in 27 job losses.
