Some 250 residents and supporters protested at the New Era housing estate in Hackney, east London, last Saturday.

Super-rich Tory MP Richard Benyon and his brother have bought up homes and are hiking the rent up from £800 to £2,000 a month.

Comedian and campaigner Russell Brand marched with protesters to Benyon’s office.

There was also a protest in Manor Park, east London, on Monday of this week where a family is fighting eviction.

It was supported by the longrunning Focus E15 mothers’ campaign.
