Indefinite walkout halted for Sheffield refuse workers

Issue No. 2430

The GMB union suspended an all-out strike by recycling workers in Sheffield, south Yorkshire, for two weeks on Tuesday of last week.

It was part of an ongoing dispute over pay, terms and conditions and allegations of management bullying.

The union suspended the action to allow for talks with council and company bosses.

The workers are employed by the Green Company, a subcontractor for outsourcing giant Veolia that runs Sheffield City Council’s environmental services.

The indefinite strike was set to resume on Tuesday of next week as Socialist Worker went to press.
